Match Analysis:
Toss: India. The match was reduced by rain to 49 overs a side. On a murky morning, India batted first in a typical Wellington wind. They profited from a fluent partnership between Prabhakar and Manjrekar, which provided 58 for the second wicket. Azharuddin produced his usual magic, Tendulkar contributed 36 from 39 balls, and Kapil Dev, who had not batted well throughout the tour, was at his best in hitting 46 from 38 deliveries. New Zealand made a laboured start, but Greatbatch and Rutherford put on 80 for the fourth wicket at a rate which argued that New Zealand would win at a canter. The ensuing collapse, however, left Hadlee trying to win the game single-handed. So well did he counter-attack that New Zealand needed 11 runs to win from the last over, with two wickets in hand. Hadlee hit 4, 2, 2, but Snedden was run out off the fourth ball, which produced a single. Kapil Dev then bowled the perfect yorker as Hadlee tried to hit the winning runs.

Infosacten Report : After 2 consecutive ducks, Sachin scored a match winning 36 comprising 5 fours. India was crumbling at 93/4 when Manjrekar got out and Sachin along with Azhar and Kapil Dev, ensured India reached a respectable total. Sachin was dropped for the next match of the tri-angular series which India lost and eventually made their way out for the race for the Trophy
